THE INDIAN MBA CRAZE
posted on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 2:49 PMIT's Pouring , its pouring really hard .....
What is pouring ?.
.. its pouring MBA's in india ....
Every second graduate* in India is thinking of doing an MBA....which is responsible for the present figure of over 1500 B-schools in the country... all claiming to be in the top 50 slot.
QUES: Is it a MBA craze ..??
MY ANS: I guess so
In INDIA the PGPS, PGDBM..... and god knows how many ingenious fanciful post graduate management courses....ALL fall into one broad category of MBA..
Why do people actually want to be an MBA ?
ALL OF THEM WANT TO BE MANAGERS. :)
But we have to realize that high fat pay packages is the main impetus of people actually enrolling for these courses. The hype to MBA has been so intense that people are getting desperate to get enrolled for any management programme from any institute. An MBA Degree is more important than the knowledge...
Insititutes are competing for students ...all claiming to have the best of professors, best infrastructure facilities and above all the BEST PLACEMENTS.... as students are the only of source their revenue which their business (school) generates.
We have 2 dozen different fully comprehensive B- school ranking published every year ... each comprehensive survey showing different results.. :) ..... that is good enough to confuse a prospective MBAite.
But where does it stop after all? I guess no where in the near future ...
There is a lot of demand for fresh MBAs in india ( No Comments on the quality of MBAs though ).... as india is moving towards being an global economic power.
So where demand exists ... supply should match it up.
Here Quality is not a factor of consideration ... as we know.. “Indians are not Quality conscious“. :)
* gradute does not take into account the graduates in medicine ....THE DOCTORS.. but there are exceptions among them as well.
IS IT FAIR OR UNFAIR ? (IN all.. Its ALL complex(ion) )

“Being FAIR...in all UR dealings“ and U shall be successful..
The connotation has changed ...over a period of years in india..
25 years back : It meant that one must work with honesty and maintain his integrity in whatever one does and he/she would eventually succeed.
Now JAN 20th 2007 : It means you should actively start applying creams like FAIR and LOVELY / HANDSOME.....GLOW FAIR.FAIR ONE..etc..and U would eventually...rather...surely succeed.. :)
What has brought about this Brobdingnagian ( major ) change in the connotation?
I sincerely hope we should all appreciate the contributions of companies like EMAMI who have successfully brought about this mindset change. Hats Off.. This companies really focus towards complying to “ Social and moral resposibilities “ rather than concentrating on profits.
The Evil mindset of an Average Indian* (.. The Average Indian... with regards to mental capacity and not with respect to height ) has long existed which discriminates people on the basis of their complexion ( besides many other already classifying norms such as caste, creed, religion in our system )
The Companies like EMAMI took up this challenge and have been since working towards the EVIL mindset.
THE RESULT OF THE INITIATIVE BY EMAMI
They have been largely successful.... :)
They have made people more aware that Skin- discrimination exists ...bringing it from their sub-conscious mind to the conscious head. ... through their sexist - shallow but enlightening advertisments. ( Their take : FAIRER SEX has to be fair)
They have been able to transform this small EVIL into a Mammoth EVILIER MINDSET..
And EMAMI could gain just about Rs.1000 crore for carrying out such a onerous social responsibilty.
But does THE responsibility end here?
Answer : A very BIG “ NO“.
It has not limited its awareness programme to Just the FAIRER SEX .. now ITS THE TURN OF the MENZ TO GET ACTIV :)
